I didn’t want you dead, just naked. The dead part only came later. But you know how dreams are … they subscribe to their own logic, and accordingly, they will conclude within the ancillary bounds of their own concurrent parentheses.

The feeling that can come over a person when waking up is commonly perceived to be disorientation or confusion. But what it really is most of the time, it’s that a better world just disintegrated in half a second and won’t be easy to get back to. And it takes a few moments to get adjusted again to what’s worth a whole lot less.

In dreams we took the shapes of sea monsters and submarines, and we turned out to be horrible people when we woke, but it was okay because we didn’t tell anybody.
